BENEFITS OF SURGICAL WEIGHT LOSS

Research studies and our own extensive experience have shown that many obesity-related health conditions can improve and even be eliminated with weight loss surgery. Here are just a few examples of the health benefits you can achieve:

  • Lower blood pressure
  • Lower cholesterol levels
  • Improved cardiovascular health
  • Improved blood glucose (blood sugar) levels, potentially preventing type 2 diabetes
  • Lessen or eliminated asthma attacks
  • Improved sleep, lessened potential for Sleep Apnea Syndrome and snoring
  • Relief from Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
  • Improved bladder control
  • Comfort and relief from lower back pain and degenerative diseases
  • Improved metabolic health
  • Relief from migraine headaches and depression
  • Enhanced quality of life and longevity

RISKS OF SURGICAL WEIGHT LOSS

All surgeries involve risks. Complications from bariatric surgery—such as wound infections, abdominal bleeding, staple/suture leakage, respiratory failure, pulmonary problems or other surgery-related issues—occur in less than 5% of the procedures performed. In addition, the average mortality rate for patients undergoing bariatric surgery is less than 1%.

Longer term negative affects of bariatric surgery can include such issues as ulcers, anemia, vitamin deficiencies, temporary hair thinning and symptomatic gallstones. Depending on the type of procedure, additional negative affects can include abdominal cramping, faintness, headaches, etc. However, many of these risks can be eliminated and/or minimized with a proper nutritional diet and regular exercise.

In short, the health benefits you can achieve from bariatric surgery far outweigh any potential risks.
